Tips For Better Sleep with a Partner

14th Feb 2023 • Malouf Home

Sharing a bed with your significant other may seem like an easy thing to do. Somehow though, it proves to be more challenging than you originally thought.

Adults are encouraged to get between seven to nine hours of sleep every night. But getting the recommended amount of sleep isn’t always easy with someone beside you.

Instead of sleeping soundly through the night, you might find yourself tossing and turning, or even finding another room to sleep in. If this is you, rest assured that you’re not alone.

Many couples have sleep issues when they’re in bed together. In a lot of cases, it’s the partner’s snoring that keeps the other person awake.

But there are other reasons you might have trouble sleeping side by side. Things like overheating, space issues, and different sleep schedules can all have an impact.

When you make it work though, sleeping in the same bed can benefit both your sleep and your relationship.

Explore the Side-By-Side Benefits

Sleeping next to your significant other can have a calming effect on your body and a positive effect on your relationship, according to an article by The Better Sleep Council.

When we experience different levels of physical intimacy, like hugging or holding hands, our bodies release “happy hormones.” One of these hormones is called Oxytocin.

According to The Better Sleep Council article, Oxytocin can promote feelings of trust and empathy and can even help reduce anxiety. And when we feel secure, our bodies are able to unwind.

So, it’s safe to say that by sleeping next to each other, or even cuddling in bed, you and your partner might have an easier time relaxing and falling asleep.

An academic study suggests that sleeping next to your partner can also improve your sleep cycle. A researcher at the Center for Integrative Psychiatry explained how it benefits your REM sleep, specifically.

Rapid Eye Movement is one of several stages of sleep. During this cycle, your brain activity, breathing, heart rate, and blood pressure increase. It’s also when most of your dreaming happens.

REM sleep accounts for 20 to 25 percent of the average adult’s sleep cycle. According to the Sleep Foundation, REM sleep helps with your brain development, emotional processing, and memory consolidation.

These are just two examples of how sleeping next to your partner can be beneficial. You probably have experienced your own benefits as well.

Set Aside Your Sleep Differences

We know several factors are at play when it comes to couples and sleep. For example, you may like a firmer mattress, but your partner prefers a softer feel.

Or, maybe your partner prefers a cozier sheet set, whereas you like to like sleep cooler year-round. No matter the case, we have you covered.

From our mattresses and frames to our sheets and pillows, our products are designed with your individual needs in mind.

Our Split King sleep systems, for example, are the perfect answer to resolving your sleep differences. Keep scrolling to learn more.

Choose a Malouf Sleep System

With a Split King sleep system, you get two Twin XL mattresses and adjustable bed bases, which when pushed together, equal the size of a traditional King-size bed.

At Malouf™, we offer three different sleep systems: Embark, Ascend, and Peak. Each one is available in Split King and has its own unique benefits to help you sleep better.

Mattresses

If you’re in the market for a new mattress, you’ve come to the right place. All Malouf™ mattresses are made with supportive memory foam or latex and have advanced features like cooling technology.

It gets better though. Every Malouf™ mattress comes rolled and compressed in a single box so it’s easy to ship and deliver to your home.

When your mattress arrives, remove it from the box, let it decompress, slip on a mattress protector (Our mattresses come with a free one!), and experience rejuvenating comfort.

Adjustable Bed Bases

With a Split King setup, you get your own adjustable base so you have more control over the way you sleep. Plus, adjustable bases address a myriad of sleep concerns.

Snoring, for example, has become a huge sleep interference for couples. In fact, 37 million Americans say they snore on a regular basis.

Our adjustable bed bases help resolve this issue. If you or your partner snores, you can use the automatic snore-detection built into our M455 and S655 adjustable bases.

With the help of our free Malouf™ Base App, our adjustable bases can detect human snores and will automatically adjust the head rest to reduce snoring. This feature is a game-changer for couples.

An adjustable bed base also can alleviate acid reflux and help with back pain. If you experience any of these annoyances on a nightly basis, you will love an adjustable bed base.

Accessories

Your sheets and pillows are also important to your sleep environment, and we have plenty of options to choose from.

All Malouf™ sheets are breathable, durable, and comfortable. Additionally, each set has special properties to accomodate your needs, whether you sleep hot, have sensitive skin, or struggle with allergies.

Our our bestselling Rayon from Bamboo Sheet Set and Botanical Sheet Set with TENCEL™ Lyocell Fiber are two amazing options to consider adding to your sleep setup.

Our pillows make another great addition, with each one offering different levels of comfort and personalization depending on your sleep position.

If you’re a side sleeper, consider our Shoulder Gel Dough™ Pillow. For back sleepers, we recommend the Dough™ Bamboo Charcoal Pillow(It helps with allergies, too!). If you’re a stomach sleeper, try our Talalay Latex Pillow.
