8 Wellness Tips for National Wellness Month

9th Aug 2022 • Malouf Home

August is National Wellness Month. Wellness is something we take seriously here at Malouf™. Take this month to reset your mind and body and create great habits for a healthy lifestyle. Here are our top tips for better wellness—both when it comes to sleep and overall.

Exercise & Diet

The basics of a healthy lifestyle are the same ones we’ve always heard, but it can be hard to implement them. Get your steps in however works best for you. Keep your body moving and you’ll feel better during the day while encouraging good sleep. Your everyday diet is also going to play into the way you feel. Eat a balanced diet with daily vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and healthy fats, adding in moderate amounts of meat, dairy, and treats. What and when you eat can also impact your sleep, so consider these tips as you meal plan.

Hydration Happiness

Drink plenty of water throughout the day. Doing so will aid in digestion, regulate your body temperature and organ functions, and keep your skin healthy. It will also make sure you stay hydrated through the night. On the other hand, limit your alcohol and caffeine consumption later in the day. Drink your afternoon soda a little earlier or switch to decaf to help yourself fall asleep faster and deeper.

A Clean Space

Keeping your bedroom and bedding fresh and clean will result in better sleep. With the clutter gone, you’ll have one less thing to stress about. Add a protective layer to your bed with a Malouf mattress protector, defending your mattress against allergens and liquids.

Elevate Your Environment

There’s truly nothing better than climbing into bed at the end of a long day. Create the ultimate escape for yourself with a bedroom designed to induce great sleep. An adjustable bed base is a great starting point. These bases provide customizable sleep and relaxation, with added features like massage settings and Bluetooth® compatibility. Outfit your mattress with Botanical Tencel™ Lyocell sheets for soft, cool, comfortable sleep.

Right on Time

Keeping a consistent schedule throughout your week will help you feel balanced and refreshed. Go to sleep and wake up at the same time every day—even on weekends. Having that schedule will help you get higher quality rest and is also associated with healthier body composition and a lower risk of heart disease. Stick to the trend of a schedule when it comes to meals, exercise, etc. to maintain consistency.

Slow it Down

End your day in a relaxing way. Sink into a Malouf infused pillow as you meditate or journal. Stretch your muscles, slip into your most comfortable pajamas, and listen to a calming playlist. Slow your heart rate and mind down to prepare yourself for sleep.

Turn off the Tech

As your day winds down, take a step back from the technology in your life. Finish all your last-minute scrolling at least an hour before you go to sleep. The blue light our phones emit disrupts your circadian rhythm, which in turn affects your quality of sleep. Utilize the bedtime or do not disturb functions on your phone to avoid disruptive notifications.

Mental Note

Staying on top of your mental health will be beneficial in all areas of your life. Recharge your internal battery in whatever way works best for you. Take a long bath, read a book, go to therapy, or take a walk, and of course, get a good night’s sleep. Invest in a weighted blanket to ease stress and anxiety through gentle pressure and soothing fabric.

Use these suggestions not only this month, but throughout your life to create healthy habits to help you live well and sleep better.
