A Force for Good: Celebrating B Corp™ Month with Malouf

Throughout the month of March, Malouf™ and thousands of other companies around the world have been celebrating B Corp Month. Certified B Corporations are held to a higher standard of corporate social responsibility, finding a purpose in business beyond the walls of our building.

Malouf™ has become a trusted leader in the bedding industry over the years, however, we also know that there is so much more to being a leader in business than just seeing profits and outward success.

From the beginning, giving back has been important to Malouf. From getting involved in local community charities to the roots of the Malouf Foundation, we have always been motivated by helping others and wanted to be involved in something bigger than ourselves. In 2018 we realized our values aligned with many other companies who prioritized giving back—think Athleta, Ben & Jerry’s, Patagonia—and found the opportunity to join a community of companies using business as a force for good. After eight months and an in-depth analysis of the company, Malouf became an official B Corporation.

The criteria and process of becoming a B Corp are complex and thorough, but at Malouf, we have boiled it down to three primary focuses—People, Planet, Product.

People

We treat employees like family and truly value each and every one of them. When our employees feel supported, they in turn take care of our customers. We support them by:

  • Covering 100% of health insurance premiums for them and their families
  • Providing employee mental health and wellness programs
  • Including designated paid time off to volunteer in the community

Planet

Creating a sustainable business is important to us, and we know it is to you too. We commit to that every day through the ins and outs of our operation. By making small changes as we go, we can make a bigger impact over time. We do that by:

  • Designing an eco-friendly headquarters that include solar panels and an on-site garden
  • Having an employee-run sustainability council that focuses on ways we can improve our business practices
  • Supporting ethical production standards

Product

We are committed to making our packaging more sustainable and continuing to develop products that utilize eco-friendly materials. We also want you to feel confident in your purchase and the impact you have on our planet. We do that by:

  • Rolling out new sheet packaging that uses 66% less plastic
  • Creating bedding from materials like Supima® cotton and TENCEL™. These brands are providing environmentally responsible fibers that are made to last
  • Our wood furniture features reclaimed pine and other eco-friendly option

As our company continues to grow, we are committed to keeping these values close and making consistent efforts to getting better every day. We are here to help people live well and sleep better, but for us, it’s more than sleep products. Malouf is dedicated to making a positive impact through its B Corp status—beyond the month of March.
